Mr. Makoto Yamanaka
Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Poland
Mr. Makoto Yamanaka has assumed the post of Japan’s Ambassador to the Republic of Poland since September 2011. Before coming to Poland, he served in Tokyo as Ambassador for Science and Technology Cooperation from September 2010. From October 2007 to September 2010, he was posted in Singapore as Ambassador of Japan. He was Consul General of Japan in San Francisco from March 2004 to August 2007.
Mr. Yamanaka started his official career as a diplomat in 1974 and he worked in the Asian Affairs Bureau, European Affairs Bureau, Treaties Bureau, and Intelligence and Analysis Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Tokyo. His overseas assignments include the Embassies of Japan in US, Thailand and UK, as well as the Permanent Mission of Japan in Vienna. Mr. Yamanaka also served as the Head of the OECD Tokyo Centre from 1999 to 2002.
Mr. Makoto Yamanaka graduated from Keio University in Tokyo in 1974 and from Amherst College in Massachusetts, US, in 1977.
Born in December 1951. Married to Yuriko with two sons.
